It has a long lasting tradition to publish different collections from the news photos documenting events of the year as the new year approaches. This is no different this year.

Closing and publishing of the national, international and thematic photo contests is not here yet, but news websites have been publishing their best of the year selections for days or even weeks.
One can observe many of the pictures – just like every year – are sad, violent and the galleries are in great overlap in both the photos they choose and the events they were taken at.
