Just like in previous years I went to photograph the Blooming of Tisza again this year. Mayflies are still cute animals of course, I love them especuially as they don’t sting! But this time there were also many more mosquitos than I’d ever seen before, and these creatures unfortunately simply love to bite me…
This year the huge cloud of mayflies “blooming” on the Tisza (a river in eastern Hungary, the country’s second longest after the Danube) was smaller than in recent years, but still presented a swarm comprising huge numbers of the charming little beasts. The blooming started somewhat later this year causing some photographers and even specialists to fret it would be canceled completely for the year. Thankfully it was not to be.
Some children even jumped in the water to swim among the mayflies.
Some think it must be awful to swim with insects – but they probably have never seen live the Tisza blooming. I have never tried it myself but I’m sure it must be the same joy to swim with them as it is to photograph them or simply just to observe them.
