Following traditions the Day of Saint George is not only to honour policemen, that in Hungary for a whlie has been tied togehter with honouring firemen as well. This is also the day when the traditional agricultural gazing season starts. This is the day herdsmen lead their livestock to the fields to keep them outside for the rest of the time until the gazing season ends.
In agriculture, every year at the end of April marks the start of a new grazing season. During this time shepherds celebrate the festive of Saint George day with leading their livestock through the famous Nine holed bridge of Hortobagy, the small village known for its livestock breeding traditions and very special sight in the great plains of Hungary. Festive of the grazing season start grew not only a big celebration of the shepherds but also a tourist attraction drawing an ever-growing number of tourists to participate the countryside feeling of the event and to see with their own eyes as the animals cross the bridge.
